Ooka Island- TOS Review

My kids have been having so much fun being a part of my TOS reviews. My older children participate more then my younger, so you can imagine how excited my 4 and 6 year olds were when I told them it was their turn to help mommy with a review.

Ooka Island Adventure is a downloadable early reading program for Pre K to grade 2.
You work your way around the island building phonics skills!
This is a big download and took some time (approx 3 hours), but logging into Ooka Island was easy and Avarie, my 6 year old in 1st grade, loved starting out the game by picking out her person (avatar).
One of her favorite places on Ooka Island was the Cake Factory, where she got to decorate the cakes with letters. She had lots of laughs while in the cave of sounds! This was also her 2 and 4 year old siblings favorite part to watch her play. You navigate your way through the cave on a rollar coaster and progress as you identify the correct sounds being pronounced. She said she felt like she was on a real ride!
The goal is to unlock a series of books by completing various activities. There are a total of 85 digital books in Ooka Island!

I did notice when I walked away and let Avarie play by herself, she would just start clicking away, guessing at things. She had fun doing that, but I wanted her to get the full effect of the program. At her age, she definately needed guidence from a parent with the program.

From their web site -
The OokaMethod combines phonological development and language-rich text with comprehension activities so that children have the opportunity to achieve effortless reading.

This game is great for your new or beginner reader. I love a program that can teach a child while having fun! A lot of the fun comes from the great graphics, they are amazing!

This program was really great for my 4 year old son, Ezra who is in speech therapy. I think hearing the individual sounds was very benificial for him! Your children learn to associate these sounds with the letters and then blend them together to make words.
