Progeny Press - TOS Review

Progeny Press has over 100 study guides for literature, covering kindergarten through high school. Progeny Press study guides concentrate on critical thinking, comprehension, literary analysis, and Christian application. Our goal is to teach our children to think clearly, to understand literature, and to rely on scripture for truth and values, and enjoy themselves while they do it!

I love studying history and often have my kids read books on their own or I read out loud to them. I then make up questions based on that book or assign a project like a time-line.

Progeny Press has done the work for you! I received the interactive study guide and answer key for Pride and Prejudice which is a favorite in our home with my girls and I.

The study guide begins with a paragraph about the author. Then goes into the Table of Contents, a page on how to use the Progeny Press study guides, a Synopsis page, About the Novel's Author, and an Ideas for Prereading Activities page.

The study guides are really great and filled with more information then I would have come up with when making my own! There are vocabulary pages, questions about the chapters, dictionary definition look ups, a section titled Thinking About the Story where your child is asked questions such as - Fact vs. Opinion. With all that I love about these study guides I have to say my FAVORITE part is how they included the Bible into every section of your guide. It's called Dig Deeper and it will ask your child to look up verses in their Bible and summarize or paraphrase what the characters are doing versus what the Bible says.

We also received The Cay and will be using this at a later time. Some of my children already read this book last year at our homeschool co-op so I know this is going to be a great study guide to use with some of my other children.

The study guides really pull the whole story together and allow your child to gain so much more from what they're reading. I also believe these guides could be used for unit studies if that is something your family is interested in. My family loves to foucs on one area of study. The guides include History, Bible and English. Adding Math and Science could easily be done.
The vocabulary section is a nice review for older children as they go over Synonym and Antonym, using a dictionary, word match ups, a word box to to fill in sentences and more!

The end of the study guide has an Overview with several pages to tie everything together. A list of Bible verses to look up and paraphrase and another thing that I love - ESSAYS! The study guide list 8 different ideas on essay writings like - using your local newspaper, creative writing response, etiquette and cicility, and a Jane Austen biography.

The last pages are Additional Resources that list books of interest and other works by the author, and films and video.

All of my children were able to use the studay guide without any problems. I did let them work together in groups of two and I'm glad I did that as it opened up the door for even more discussions.

The study guides are available to order by -
Booklet-$18.99
CD-$16.99
CD and Booklet-$21.99
PDF Email attachment-$16.99

All of Progeny Press PDF or CD versions are interactive! Your child will be able to type or mark answers directly on the computer.

I reviewed the interactive guide, on PDF which was emailed to me. It's a really great idea. I did however print them out so I could put the finish work in our portfolios for end of year evaluations.
