Educating the WholeHearted Child - TOS review

I love homeschooling my children and enjoy when I'm asked by new homeschoolers if I can offer advice or how to get started schooling their children at home. I always recommend reading as much as you can on the subject. When I first decided to homeschool I read everything I could get my hands on. I had no clue where to begin this new journey!

I'm so excited to have been given this book to review! I now have a wonderful resource of my own and to share when asked by fellow homeschoolers for a great read! And this is not just for beginners. This book is filled with information that will benefit the veteran homeschooler as well.

Educating the WholeHearted Child is written by Clay and Sally Clarkson. As soon as I started this book it touched me. Just in reading the preface where they said - "We have never written books just to have something more to sell. We write because we have something more to say."
They go on to say - "This book is designed to give you, a Christian parent and home educator, greater confidence in the stewardship of your children."

This book is a new way of seeing and thinking about home education.
Your home should be a warm place where your children love to learn as naturally as they love to play.

In chapter one there is a list of Ten Good Biblical Reasons for Homeschooling. I copied this list and have it hanging on my frig.

I love the In Our Home sections in each chapter where they share their stories, views and experiences.

In chapter ten I learned about discipleship. This hit close to home as this year I've commited to reading the Bible with my children. It has opened doors for many great conversations.
Chapter ten talks about how biblical discipleship is not a responsibility you can put off or turn over to your church or someone else. I think too many parents lack in that department, including me, when it comes to teaching our children to be disciples. This is something I am learning and excited about!

I use to take my children to the library every Friday when they were younger. We would study spelling words and then spend time reading books. Over the years that tradition stopped and I've been meaning to start again. Chapter fourteen talks about the library and, like much of this book, has encouraged me to start this tradition again. I know my younger children, as well as my teens would enjoy this.

There are also side notes, Biblical principles, web sites, suggested resources and materials, and forms in the back of the book to use! This 354 paged book is a must have!

They broke the book down into 4 sections - Home, Learning, Methods, and Living - with several chapters in each that talk about such things as - Creating a Home You Can Learn Within, Understanding Your Child, Keeping the Vision Alive, and Keeping Faith in the Family.

I feel so encouraged by reading this and highly recommend all homeschoolers or those thinking about homeschooling to read this. This book wants to equip YOU to homeschool with confidence.
