Mathematical Reasoning - TOS Review

Mathematical Reasoning - Bridges the gap between computation and mathematical reasoning for higher grades and top test scores.

From The Critical Thinking Co. comes this fun, colorful, math book for your 5th grader. It's filled with math skills and concepts that allow the teacher to learn right along with the student.

Mathematical Reasoning Level F uses the spiral approach. This is a technique used in teaching where first the basic facts of a subject are learned. Then as learning progresses, more details are introduced, while at the same time they are related to the basics which are reemphasized many times to help enter them into long-term memory. The book suggests that the student work through the book page by page rather than skipping around due to this technique.

My thoughts - Using Mathematical Reasoning would be a nice addition to our normal math curriculum and great for our extra work we do during the summer. This could certainly be used as a core curriculum as well. The workbook pages have step-by-step directions for independent use. I know for my children I would still need to give them direction with some of the pages, but math has never been one of our strong subjects. We would have liked to see a few more examples of work, several of us are very visual learners, but overall we really enjoyed this book!

This 440 page workbook, which includes an answer key in back, sells for $42.99.
